One of the top questions I get from buyers relocating to Leander is about the commute. Specifically: can you actually take the train to Austin from Leander, and is it worth it?

The answer is yes — and for the right buyer, the MetroRail option is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade that changes what neighborhoods are worth considering.

The Leander Metro Rail Station

Leander is the northern terminus of the Capital Metro Rail (MetroRail) — the Red Line commuter train that runs between Leander and downtown Austin. The Leander station is located at 800 Discovery Blvd, right off 183A near the center of the city.

This isn't a future plan or a proposal. The Leander MetroRail station is operational now and has been for years. It's one of the reasons Leander attracted the level of development it did — the infrastructure was already in place.

Which Leander Neighborhoods Are Best for MetroRail Commuters?

Northline — Purpose-built as a walkable, transit-adjacent community near the Leander station area. This is the most intentionally MetroRail-friendly neighborhood in Leander. Residents can walk or bike to the station.

Bryson — Reasonably close to the station. Short drive, easy parking.

Block House Creek / Caballo Ranch — Within a 5–10 minute drive of the station. Practical commuter neighborhoods.

Crystal Falls / Travisso — More westerly locations. The drive to the station adds time, partially offsetting the train's advantage. Still workable, but less optimal than the communities above.

How the MetroRail Affects Home Values

Homes near the Leander station — especially in walkable or bike-able distance — carry a premium in buyer demand. Buyers who commute by train actively filter for proximity. That's a buyer pool that specifically targets these neighborhoods, which supports values.

As Austin's congestion continues to worsen and Cap Metro expands service, transit-adjacent properties in Leander are increasingly attractive. The Northline development was built around this thesis explicitly, and it's been well-received by buyers.

If you're relocating to Leander and your employer is downtown Austin, the Domain, or any stop along the Red Line — the MetroRail is worth factoring into your neighborhood search. For buyers who want the option but not the dependency, any of the central Leander communities keep the station within a 5–10 minute drive.
